The alarming 17-Vial Wake-Up Call
Blood testing is arguably the most important thing you can do for your longevity. Catching hidden health conditions early can quite literally save your life. We decided it was time to get serious about understanding our health status. We found a heavily advertised company and started the process.
The upsells began quickly adding to the biomarkers to be tested and also the $ cost. We then learned it would require 17 vials of blood drawn from my sweet little wife! It would require two visits with 12 the first time and 5 the next!
I tried to ask if we could at least divide the blood draws evenly across the two visits. The 'AI' chat bot wasn't even able to understand that simple question. I looked for a phone number to call and realized they didn't have one! Then I realized they also had no physical address listed on their website!
I was about to hand over our most sensitive biological data to a digital storefront with no real-world accountability... We backed out immediately!
Unlike competitor tests requiring up to 17 vials of blood, HealthieOne utilizes a tiny 1mL micro-sample.
The Dirty Secret of Health Startups
I got discouraged, but I didn't want to give up on getting tested. I started researching every major blood testing company that I could find: FunctionHealth, SuperPower Health, Marek Diagnostics, Mito Health, and many others. I became very concerned with what I found below the surface:
- Massive Blood Draws: They were all just reselling old blood testing technology which requires drawing huge volumes of blood, often across multiple clinic visits.
- Subscriptions and Upsells leading to huge cost: After being drawn in with great sounding promises, the cost quickly grew to get the insight we want.
- Limited, expensive, or no medical support: The companies were focusing on sales and 'AI' bots to maximize profitability without including the professional medical guidance to help us evaluate and understand how our markers relate.
- Data Privacy Fears: Most do not list any physical addresses, making it impossible to know if they are even fully operating within the USA and very concerning to trust them with our private health information.
- Questionable reviews: When I tried to leave a balanced review highlighting positives as well as specific concerns, giving less than a 5* rating on the review site they all seem to use, the company was able to keep my review from being posted!
Then, I found HealthieOne...
After much research I finally discovered a company called HealthieOne. They are intensely focused on advancing the actual science of blood testing—and serving leading institutions like Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic. They aren't focusing on sales and promoting themselves in the consumer market. However, they are happy to serve anyone, and what they have to offer is amazing!
- Just 1mL of Blood: Thanks to advanced metabolomics technology, they pull 250 - 280 or more biomarkers from a micro-sample. No massive vials required.
- True Experts: They aren't a tech startup; they have built their own fully accredited clinical lab based right here in the USA, next door to Johns Hopkins. They provide a personal review of the findings with medical doctors who are focused on understanding biometrics. Further, they are happy to help us to understand what they discovered, make a plan, and then follow up on our progress.
- No Hidden Upsells: An honest, fair, and affordable flat rate for an incredibly comprehensive panel, complete with a 1-on-1 consultation with a medical provider. They charge less than $2.00 / biomarker for everything!
